Orang luar pun kutuk

Anwar and the Singapore Economy - 24-10-2008, 11:21 PM

At the last Asia Financial tsunami, Anwar, then Malaysian Finance Minister, attempted to follow and implement policies recommended by IMF and the western world. Maybe he was trying to ally himself with the West to oust then Prime Minister, Mahathir.
Mahathir sacked Anwar, and immediately erected currency barrier to protect the Malaysian currency; a move that was met with harsh criticism and ridicule from the western experts.
Surprisingly the currency barrier works and shielded Malaysia safely through the recession, whereas countries such as Indonesia and Thailand accepted and followed the IMF to turmoil and pain.
As Singapore is facing recession and economic difficulties ahead, will our new generation of Ministers forge our own destiny or will they blindly follow expert advices? Will we build our own uniquely Singapore’s financial equivalent of ERP and CPF, or will we copy US and create “high notes” and “mini-bonds” to destruction?

Are our Ministers the: Anwar or Mahathir?
